Waging Peace

Kucinich Urges "Anti-War Teach-Ins Across the Country

REP. DENNIS J. Kucinich (D-OH) hosted a "Teach-In" at the Rayburn House Office Building on Capitol Hill on April 29, 2010 to examine what Congress must do to end the U.S. wars and secure a peaceful Middle East. Kucinich urged citizens to hold "teach-ins across the country," in order to wake-up the American people to the lethal and costly "consequences of the wars." Panelists included journalist Chris Hedges, senior fellow at The Nation Institute; Jeremy Scahill, author of Blackwater: The Rise of the World's Most Powerful Mercenary Army; David Swanson, author of Daybreak: Undoing the Imperial Presidency and Forming a More Perfect Union; Col. (ret.) Ann Wright, co-author of Dissent: Voices of Conscience; and Josh Stieber, who became a conscientious objector after serving in Iraq for 14 months. All the panelists have spent years challenging the belief that wars are inevitable.
